Suicide Attempts
by APieceOfShitNamedTate indoes anyone know if the new elders' manual addresses attempted suicide?
in the previous manual, it was seen as a potential judicial matter, which is absolutely ridiculous.
have they changed it?

I think it is disgraceful that they refuse to let the KH be used for the funeral of a person who has died through suicide. I have known 5+ sisters and brothers who have taken their own lives and in every case use of the KH was refused by the various bodies of elders.
At the time when their surviving family or spouse is in need of support they are turned away from their own place of worship. God knows what message it sends out into the wider community!
In most cases an elder conducted the funeral service but it had to be held in the funeral parlour or at the crematorium.

Was Russell "that" Faithful and Wise Servant?
by Sea Breeze in"from this it is clearly seen that the editor and publisher of zion's watch tower disavowed any claim to being individually, in his person, that "faithful and wise servant.
" he never did claim to be such," ("god's kingdom of a thousand years has approached," 1973, p. 346).. or this?.
"thousands of the readers of pastor russell's writings believe that he filled the office of 'that faithful and wise servant,' and that his great work was giving to the household of faith meat in due season.

The bother with this argument is that the people who come later are revisionist historians. They rewrite their own history to suit their preferred present needs.
Did the Bible Students in the days of Pastor Russell believe he was the F&DS, yes.
Proclaimers Book, jv 18, p625: "Many who were sifted out at that time clung to the view that a single individual, Charles Taze Russell, was the “faithful and wise servant” foretold by Jesus at Matthew 24:45-47 (KJ), which servant would distribute spiritual food to the household of faith. Particularly following his death, The Watch Tower itself set forth this view for a number of years. In view of the prominent role that Brother Russell had played, it appeared to the Bible Students of that time that this was the case. He did not personally promote the idea, but he did acknowledge the apparent reasonableness of the arguments of those who favored it."
But now poor Bro Russell has been relegated to a John the Baptist role, a forerunner of the true faithful and discreet slave class. Says who? Why the present F&DS of course. In much the same way that they now apply more to themselves only and not to the global anointed ones. Because now they teach that the faithful slave only came into existence in 1919 C.E. (Watchtower February 2017, page 25, para 10.)
Revisionist historians. Chop and change the facts to suit themselves. And the rank and file just gobble it up.

Paradise Earth
by Jeff1 injust recently i was looking at a topic on jwfacts entitled 'paradise on earth forever.
' from the research paul did on this topic he mentioned that there is no biblical evidence of an earthly resurrection.
i haven't heard this before but wanted to get some thoughts on this topic.

The idea of an earthly realm of Paradise has long been a part of celtic mythology. In the Irish legends it is called TĂr na nĂ“g and is depicted as a paradise and (supernatural) realm of everlasting youth, beauty, health, abundance and joy. Those favoured to be there enjoy a life of eating, dancing and loving and they never have to deal with death or dying.
Does anyone else think that sounds like the paradise earth of the Jehovah’s Witnesses? Or something very similar.

Welcome to this forum.
The thing to bear in mind is that it's possible that the local body of elders met to discuss those who are inactive or no longer attending the meetings and assigned an elder or two to each of them and to report back to the body later.
It's possible that they picked this brother to meet with you because he is family.
Personally I would be very very careful about saying anything to him on this basis.

New Textbook For Elders
by Lost in the fog ini have to say that i found item 3 on the above page raised questions in my mind.
if an elder is deleted presumably for wrongdoing the hard copy text book is taken off him and destroyed.
but who ensures that any electronic copies of the book in his possession are deleted?

I have to say that I found item 3 on the above page raised questions in my mind. If an elder is deleted presumably for wrongdoing the hard copy text book is taken off him and destroyed. But who ensures that any electronic copies of the book in his possession are deleted? Will the BoE demand all of his USB sticks and tablets to ensure he hasn't kept a copy, or do they think they have a right to take these off him? Really makes me wonder how they intend ensuring that electronic copies are deleted.

This article is about a homeless person in the Canadian winter. All the good churches are providing hot food, but the JWs are simply manning their cart. And even then object to the man just taking a handful of their literature off them.
Makes me feel so angry that they are doing nothing practical for the freezing homeless people, and sad that they once taught me to feel the same.
